Official LineageOS release notes

LineageOS 24.0 was announced on October 11, 2026 in Changelog 32. It is based on Android 17 and arrives earlier than usual this time: Google’s Android 17 release in June mostly brought small improvements, so the rebase went faster than expected. The biggest changes for you are the new browser-based flash tools, a faster Updater and several new or improved apps.

WebUSB flash tools: install from the browser

The biggest new feature is a set of flash tools at flash.lineageos.org that run directly in your browser. They use WebUSB, a web standard that lets the browser talk to a USB device, so you need fewer separate flashing tools on your computer. Four installation methods are supported:

  • ADB
  • Fastboot
  • Amlogic Burn (for devices with Amlogic chips, such as TV boxes)
  • Samsung Odin

The tools are optional. The device guides in the LineageOS wiki remain the default, supported way to install. According to LineageOS, whether the tools work depends on the device, browser, operating system and USB connection. As always: back up your data first.

Faster updates and new apps

The Updater got the most practical improvement. It now uses streaming updates by default, which greatly reduces install time on A/B devices (devices with two system slots). On non-A/B devices, the recovery is now updated automatically on the first boot after a successful update. The Updater was also fully redesigned and works better on tablets and TVs.

Other app changes:

  • Canvas is a new image editor for cropping, white balance and filters. It complements the Glimpse gallery and the Aperture camera.
  • Twelve (music) loads large libraries faster, shows your most played albums and genres, and has improved Jellyfin support. A bug where tracks got stuck with audio offload enabled is fixed.
  • Jelly (browser) can add websites as app-like shortcuts, similar to PWAs (Progressive Web Apps).
  • SetupWizard has a completely new onboarding flow in Material 3 Expressive.
  • Catapult (Android TV launcher) shows a battery indicator on mobile devices and handheld consoles.
  • WebView is updated to version 155.0.8059.30, Etar (calendar) and Seedvault (backup) to the latest upstream versions.

LineageOS also had its installation process and apps checked in an accessibility audit by the a11y project. One early result is a reworked recovery navigation and UI.

Security patches

LineageOS 24.0 ships with security patches up to October 2026. Patches from August 2025 to October 2026 were merged into all branches from LineageOS 18.1 to 24.0. The security patch level shown in the settings is only updated on LineageOS 21 (Android 14) and newer, because Google only provides official bulletins for those versions.

Supported devices

LineageOS 24.0 starts with a decent selection of devices, most of them carried over from 23.2, including many Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola, Samsung, Sony and Xiaomi models. New on the build roster are, among others:

  • Google Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold and 10a
  • OnePlus 15 and 15T, OnePlus Pad 3 Pro / Pad 4
  • Amazon Fire Max 11
  • Realme GT7 Pro
  • AYN Thor (handheld console)

More devices will follow once their maintainers have them ready. Whether your device is supported is listed in the LineageOS wiki. Devices with Linux kernel 4.4 or 4.9 only get LineageOS 22.2 officially, even if unofficial ports of 23.2 or 24.0 exist. Kernels in 23.2 and 24.0 must meet stricter requirements, for example building fully without GCC.

Upgrading to LineageOS 24.0

If you are on an official build, you can upgrade without wiping your data. Open your device’s page in the wiki and follow “Upgrade to a higher version of LineageOS”. A wipe is only needed if the wiki page explicitly says so, for example because of a repartition. If you are coming from an unofficial build, you need to follow the regular installation guide.

LineageOS recommends using only the instructions on the wiki and not relying on older guides or videos, because partitioning and update mechanisms vary a lot between devices. For Samsung devices, the wiki no longer uses Odin or Heimdall but the open-source tool samloader-rs.

What else is new

For tinkerers, there is a new experimental generic target that runs LineageOS directly on hardware without an Android device or emulator. According to LineageOS, it has already booted on x86_64 PCs, Apple Silicon Macs, NVIDIA DGX Spark and laptops with Snapdragon X. There are no official builds for it. LineageOS also turns 10 on December 24, 2026.

The predecessor is LineageOS 23.2. All versions are on the LineageOS overview.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to wipe my data to upgrade to LineageOS 24.0?

No, not if you are on an official LineageOS build. Follow the upgrade guide on your device's wiki page. A wipe is only needed if that page says so, for example because of a repartition. Coming from an unofficial build, you need a fresh install.

Does my device with kernel 4.4 or 4.9 get LineageOS 24.0?

No, not officially. For devices with Linux kernel 4.4 or 4.9, LineageOS only accepts official builds of 22.2. It keeps getting monthly security patches until Google stops publishing bulletins for Android 15.
