TL;DR

According to its own statement of April 23, 2026, GrapheneOS has at least around 400,000 users. The number is the project's estimate based on update downloads, because GrapheneOS contains no telemetry. There are no public statistics like those of LineageOS.

How many people use GrapheneOS?

GrapheneOS has at least around 400,000 users. The project wrote this on X on April 23, 2026: “We know we have at least around 400k users based on update downloads.” (Source)

How GrapheneOS estimates the number

The number comes from downloads from the update server, not from measurements on the devices. According to the usage guide, the system updater checks for updates roughly every six hours as soon as a network connection is available. The update server only learns the IP address and the version being updated from.

That is why the project says “at least”:

  • Devices that are rarely online or postpone updates do not show up in every period.
  • Several devices behind the same IP address cannot be told apart reliably.
  • Counting individual devices is deliberately not part of the design.

Why there are no more precise numbers

GrapheneOS does without telemetry. According to the official FAQ, the system has no analytics and no telemetry. The GrapheneOS servers only learn the general device model (such as “Pixel 7 Pro”) and the OS version needed for updates. Statistics by country, device or version like those of LineageOS are therefore not possible, and not wanted either.

Comparison with LineageOS

The numbers of GrapheneOS and LineageOS cannot be compared directly. LineageOS counts active installs through opt-out statistics in which devices report with an anonymous ID. GrapheneOS, on the other hand, estimates its number from server downloads. The development of LineageOS installs since 2019 is in the stats page LineageOS user numbers.

Everything else about the system is on the GrapheneOS overview.

Frequently asked questions

How many people use GrapheneOS?

According to GrapheneOS, at least around 400,000 (as of April 23, 2026). The project estimates the number from downloads from its update server.

Does GrapheneOS collect usage data?

No. According to the official FAQ, GrapheneOS has no analytics or telemetry. The GrapheneOS servers only learn the general device model and the OS version, which are needed for updates.

Are there public GrapheneOS statistics like the ones for LineageOS?

No. LineageOS publishes opt-out statistics at stats.lineageos.org. GrapheneOS only occasionally states an estimated total.
